Alex

TGA and VSD, Arterial Switch and complete repair

Alex

When Alex was born we did not know that he had a congenital heart defect. He turned blue when I tried to give him some glucose water. So they rushed him off to the NICU because his oxygen saturation was low. They spent the rest of the morning telling us that they didn't think it was serious, but they couldn't figure out why his saturations were still low when he was on so much oxygen. They finally did an echo and diagnosed the heart defect.

After the surgery the surgeon left the incision open with a transparent patch covering the heart. It was possible to see through and watch his heart beat!

— Sara, Alex's mother (Omaha, NE)
