The last picture we shot of Carolina
the night before she passed away

Carolina Jane Stump was born January 30, 2003. She was born with HLHS/PS. Though her parents exhausted finding a way to get her some help, all of the surgeons and pediatric cardiologists they consulted with came to the conclusion that there was nothing they could offer Carolina in way of surgery or transplant. Her condition was too severe and there was nothing to work with.

We took her home under the care of hospice in March of 2003. We had hoped with some time something minute might change, it did not. She was alert and happy up until the very moment of her passing. Amazingly with no intervention she lived seven months and passed away on September 1st, 2003. Her passing was quick. She passed away in the arms of her mommy and daddy. She will be missed greatly by her older brother and sister.

Carolina was a force of joy and peace. She was a happy baby, despite the sick body she was born with. We know now that her heart is once again healthy and she is whole in the arms of heaven. We look forward to seeing her in heaven again, some day.

Turn again to Life

If I should die and leave you here a while,
Be not like others, sore undone, who keep
Long vigil by the silent dust and weep.
For my sake turn again to life and smile,
Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do
That which will comfort other souls than thine;
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mine,
And I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
