Jalen James

Ivemark Syndrome

Jalen (on the left) with twin Alex (May 04)
Jalen at 2- always had a beautiful smile.

Jalen and his twin Alex were born July 3, 2001. We knew in advance of Jalen's condition so they were born near a children's hospital. Ivemark Syndrome is a very serious condition. Only a handful of children reach the age of five. Jalen had two B-T shunts placed, a modified version of the Glenn, the Fontan and a Fontan takedown. The Fontan was too much for our Jalen. He passed away at the age of three, ten weeks after the Fontan.

Jalen was a very happy, loving, and slightly mischievous little boy. Outside of the hospitals, he was like any normal little boy. We miss him very much.

— Leah, Jalen's mother (southern Indiana)
