Transposition of the Great Vessels (L-TGA), Double Switch

Jamie Noel

Jamie with mom (May 2006)

Jamie was born in December of 2004. Ten days after Jamie was born, our pediatrician heard a heart murmur and we were immediately sent to a pediatric cardiologist, Dr. John McCloskey in Tacoma, Washington. This is where we learned that Jamie had Transposition of the Great Vessels as well as a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD).

November 2005

Jamie successfully underwent a Pulmonary Banding surgery at Children's Hospital in Seattle, Washington.  The Pulmonary Banding was done to prepare her for the Double Switch procedure which will be done within the next year or so.  Jamie responded marvelously to this surgery and has gained weight and been strong since the banding was completed.

September 2006

After many months of waiting for a surgery date, Jamie will undergo the Double Switch surgery on October 10th at Children's Hospital in Seattle.  The surgery will be performed by Dr. Gordon Cohen of Children's Hospital with the assistance of Mr. William Brawn from Birmingham Children's Hospital who is traveling from Birmingham, England.

December, 2006

On October 10, 2006, Jamie successfully underwent the Double Switch surgery at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle.  The surgery went better than anyone could have expected.  She quickly recovered and was released from the hospital after only 7 days.  She went beyond everyone's expectations as to how well she took the surgery.

Sadly, Jamie passed away suddenly late December 31, 2006 while vacationing with family in Maui, Hawaii.  Jamie was a brave little girl who overcame every obstacle.  She lived and loved life to the very end.  Her smile melted the hearts of those around her.  She is now with the Lord with no more pain, medicines, scars or surgeries.

Jamie will be greatly missed by her parents, Tim & Corina, her big brother Peyton, her big sister Megan, her grandparents, aunts and uncles, extended family and all her friends. The family would like to thank all our friends and family for their support.  We also want to thank Dr. John McCloskey, the staff at Northwest Children’s Heart Care, Dr. Gordon Cohen, the staff at Children’s Hospital in Seattle and all those who helped and loved Jamie throughout her life.
