Jett

Corrected Transposition, Heterotaxy, Dextrocardia

Jett
Jett, age 3
Jett is two years old. He was diagnosed in utero. We are waiting to see what procedures he will have to undergo as he grows.

November 2007 Update

Jett turned 3 on October 26th. He had his first open heart surgery on Oct. 30th. The surgery repaired his ASD and opened up his pulmonary valve. The names for his heart condition are called LTGA, Corrected Transposition, Ventricular Inversion, and Dextrocardia. He also has situs inversus. We have known about all of this before birth. Jett is a thriving, active, and determined 3 year old. His development has not been slowed down one bit. We have been waiting 3 years for this surgery to occur and are very relieved it is over.

Dr. Fox, his surgeon, and Dr. Finnigan, his cardiologist, have done a fabulous job taking care of Jett and his heart. We stayed in the new Dell Children's hospital in Austin and had the most positive experience. Jett spent only one night in ICU an only 4 days total in the hospital.

Jett has a younger brother, Cash, who is 8 months old. Cash is perfectly healthy with no heart issues. Jett's future holds additional surgeries, however, our doctors concur that time and advancement in technology are on our side. Jett may have a pacemaker put in when he is a teenager, but beyond that, it may be 10 to 20 to 30 years before his right ventricle (doing the left ventricle's job) may give out. Until then, there is nothing in Jett's way from experiencing all that life has to offer.

— Meredith, Jett's mother (Austin, Texas)
