Katelyn

HLHS, DORV, Fontan

Katelyn

Katelyn was born with a hypoplastic left ventricle and double outlet right ventricle. She is now 15 years old and facing some big decisions for her future. She has been through so much and the thought of another major surgery does not appeal to her at this time. There just isn't a good plan for her at this time. As of today she is doing well. We will be taking just one day at a time and rejoice for each one that she has.

We home-school Katelyn which she loves. We are using the Bob Jones DVD program and it is absolutely wonderful! School does come hard for Katelyn but she diligently keeps working at it. She enjoys being with her friends and talking on the Internet with her on line friends and cousins who live away.

  • Diagnosis:  Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS)., double outlet right ventricle
  • Treatment:  Jan. 15, 1992 she had a PA banding done and they opened the 2 atriums; August 19, 1993 they did the Fontan; in 1996 she had atrial flutter while they were doing a cath; in 1999 there was a vein feeding her heart blue blood so they did a heart cath and did a coil embolization; in  2003 they did a cath where they put a ASD device closure as well as a Amplatzer occluding fenestration; in 2006 she went into atrial flutter again which they had to shock her heart twice to get it back into a good rhythm. Her O2 sats were getting low again so another cath was done and they did plug another hole which made her sats come up some.
