Coarctation of Aorta, Surgical End-to-End Anastomosis

Katie was found to have a heart murmur at two days of age. She had an echo and a small VSD was diagnosed. While rechecking this a few months later she was diagnosed with a coarc of the aorta. It stayed mild to moderate with no symptoms for several years so her doctors chose to just watch it (fine with me!!) When she was 8 her echo showed that it was getting worse so she had her surgery at Los Angeles Children's Hospital by Dr Starnes. One of my close friends is an RN there and took wonderful care of Katie.

Katie is now 10 years old and doing just great. She is an all-star pitcher on a softball team. She is a great student and all around great kid. She has an older sister named Jennifer who is heart-healthy. Katie is planning on being a vet when she grows up and is the proud owner of two cats, two rats, a goldfish and a just received tadpole!!!!!
