Raegan Jean

VSD, repaired; coarctation of aorta; Turner's Syndrome

Raegan Jean
...right after surgery!

In December of 2004 we began the process to adopt a special needs child from China, focusing specifically on a child with a VSD. Little did we know when we started that process that our daughter had already been born.

In February of 2006 we were given the good news by our agency that they had located a 17 month old girl who had a corrected VSD and was available for adoption. We knew the minute we saw her picture that she was our daughter.

— Jeff and Tina, Raegan's parents, and sister Mackenzie (Central Illinois)

  • Born: May 2, 2004
  • Diagnosis: In September of 2006 we brought Raegan home from China. We immediately took her for evaluations to ensure that her surgery to correct her VSD was successful. We also did genetic testing to determine if her VSD was the result of a syndrome. It was then that we discovered that Raegan did indeed have Turner's Syndrome. Subsequent visits to the pediatric cardiologist would reveal that Raegan also had a coarctation of the aorta and a bicuspid aortic valve.
  • Treatment: Currently Raegan's heart defects are not problematic. Her VSD was successfully corrected. Her other defects are not causing her problems at this time. Therefore Raegan is being monitored. Raegan is a very healthy, happy, and active all-American girl.
